CHAPTER ONE

  • GENERAL BACKGROUND OF UNEMPLOYMENT

The Advanced Learners Dictionary defined unemployment as the amount of labour unused.  When a factor of production is not doing any job, we say it is unemployed.  In this project, we concentrate mainly on the effect of unemployment in Nigeria economy in particular, emphasis on labour which is the most important and active factor of production which simply means that without labour, all other factors will not be put into practice.  Then all other facts are regarded as passive factors of production.

Unemployment is a dangerous phenomenon to an industrialized economic system further primitive communities in Nigeria were usually self-sufficient and had not unemployment problem, though, they had to accept very low standard of living.  The people share work that had to be done and any spare time was enjoyed as leisure.  There is still little unemployment in Nigeria engaged in the production of primary products though these communities may suffer a general reduction in their products fall in the world market.

Often we advocate for industrialization as a penance to unemployment problem, but in as much as that, it is true that it is also very important to know that this industrialization coupled with the division of labour and specialization bring along with them this various problem called unemployment to industrial progress, how wonder it was the leading industrial nations that were the first to introduce schemes of social security.

This ugly and nerve cracking cankerworm which has right from time been reining its disastrous head in the blood stream of the general populaces of the world has been a thing of concern to great philosopher of economist and socialist of the olden days.  This has made them to come out with concepts, ideals, theories and beliefs all trying to recommend a drug for this disease called unemployment.

Anyaele (1995:214) stated that unemployment may be defined as a situation where some people who fall within the age of the working population, capable and willing to work but are unable to obtain the fitting work to do.

  • PROBLEMS ASSOCIATED WITH THE SUBJECT MATTER

Anyaele (1995:214) stated that the problem is becoming chronic without solution being in sight.  It has constituted itself into one of the worst enemies of the populace in this part of the world.  That the problem unemployment has been exacerbated by the present and retrenchments unbridle rural urban migrate e.t.c.

Unemployment which is a great problem associated with both rural and urban communities of the Nigeria economy, it results to the following…

CHAPTER 1

INTRODUCTION

  • Background of the Study

Historically, sole proprietorship is defined as the oldest, most common and simplest form of business organization. Sole proprietorship is unofficial because it is not subject to federal or state regulation, also it is relatively simple to manage and control. In this type of business, one person that is the proprietor provides all the capital required to carry on the business.

Characteristics of sole proprietorship are that the owners are inseparable from the business. More so, that proprietor provides the initiative controls the business and retains all the profit arising from the business. The owner takes all the risks and bears all the losses sustained in any bad year. However, we should remember that those who lend money and extend credit to the sole proprietorship also should be part of the risk in that. A loss, incuitably falls on them if the owner proves unable to pay the debts.

A sole proprietorship is a company which is not registered with the state as a limited liability company or corporation. The owner does not pay income tax separately for the company but he/she reports business income or losses on his/individual income tax return.

However there are other forms of business organization such as:

Partnership Business: Which is the association of people who co-owned a business for the purpose of making profit?

Limited Liability Company: Is a business owned by a number of people, operated as a legal person on behalf of its owner with the usual motive of profit.

All these business organizations are formed for the purpose of making profit. Despite these forms of business statistics shows that much eighty five percent business organization in Nigeria today is sole proprietorship whether in small scale or collage industries.

However, one of the characteristics of sole proprietorship which is profit motive has been created by making a good production in other to satisfy their customer. Therefore, sole proprietors should try to produce the right product in other to satisfy the customers.

Business organization therefore should research on the challenges and prospect which will help them in a good production. Also this research work of Ugomentus enterprises Nigeria limited will be of help.

  • Statement of the Problems

It has been observed that sole proprietors contend with daunting challenges.

Taking the plunge and becoming your own boss is risky at the best of times, but the danger for sole traders is higher than for other types of business. According to official statistics, sole traders are more likely to fail than any other kind of small business with 20% of self-employed people packing up their ventures each year. It is easy to see why the cost and time pressures of establishing a business is a huge burden for just one person. Indeed, there are amyriad of challenges that face sole trader when they standout.

Sole proprietors have to realize that a one person company can’t keep up with businesses that have multiple employees. The world more so quality today and sole proprietors will have to think about how to evolve their business and potentially bring on management team.

No matter what industry they are in, its most important for sole proprietors to be organized are efficient in order to succeed.

Another challenge of sole proprietorship is “decision making” and management control. Sole proprietors are in full control of every aspect of the business. Sole proprietors do not engage the services of competent and qualified personnel. The result in taking irrational decisions which impact negatively on business operation. Hence, lack of requisite skills and knowledge pose daunting impediments to the growth of the business.

Life is a challenge to sole proprietorship. A sole proprietorship will automatically end if the owner dies, decides to retire, or sell the business. This is in contrast to a corporation or LLC (Limited Liability Company) which enjoy continuity.

  • INTRODUCTION

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

The staff customer relationship is a contractual relationship staff are the most important channel of communication the outsider’s opinion of the organization will be based almost entirely on the staff he knows or encounters and where by the employee is inefficient or surly the will be his (i.e. customers) image  of the organization

On the other hand in any business   where products or service are sold or rendered the customer is the key success many year ago, one of Americas greatest the whole principles of customer relation in few word the customer is always right.

Customer can make or break any commercial enterprise if they are pleased with what they buy and happy about their treatment they will continue to buy and tell their friends but if the product service or treatment is un satisfactory the customer will not only stop buying but also will tell their friends and acquaintance about the unhappy experience.

Staff relations with customers are often as much as a management problem as public officer because every organization wants to create an image for itself.  Good staff customers relationship goes hand in hand it is difficult indeed to draw a line between them because staff has repeated contract with the public. The contact provides the best means for two way communication.  They permit an exchange of question and answers this proving an opportunity to explain persuade.  They also  make it possible to offend or err.

The general public had anticipated that by now the picture of the staff customer relationship especially in the banking sector should have been pretty and nice to behold at least in terms of services attitude to work and more importantly in the upholding and up liftmen of the basic daily practices of the contract relationship.

Oral and written evidence seems to at least to the continued fall in the standard of staff customer relationship and its affect on the organizations image.

It is to appraise the extent to which the system has lives up to expectation in their system and other related area that promoted me into the research work.

The united bank for Africa limited (UBA) On which this research work  based originated from french  bank limited itself metamorphosed from BNCL Paris (Bangue national pude commerce et industry) established in 1982. the bank officially opened to business in December 1949 with a staff strength of twelve In 1960 the bank went public in accordance with the policy and intention of the French owner of the bank to sell of some of their shares to Nigerians.  On February 1961 the united bank for Africa limited with incorporated to take over the assets and liabilities of the British and French bank and was officially opened for business under the new name on October 3, 1961 was
