ABSTRACT

This research work on the management and administrative effects and means of creating awareness on radio and television for beverages was carefully carried out based on the essential lateness in business administration and management courses.

I was also able to recognize the fact that there are some management and administration functions that need to be justified in order to have a good successful outcome.

1.0     INTRODUCTION

Business administration and management implies all those human foundation performed to satisfy consumer need and management through the production and exchange process, firms, which have adopted the marketing concepts, mostly because of the aim at finding what the consumer need and wants, providing such needs and wants to the consumer effectively and efficiently as possible. Normally, know matter how qualitative a product may be, it cannot sell itself in the market because consumer must be aware of the product attribute so that the competitive market will not be allowed to competitor the product with the other product in the market.  Hence the need for advertisement comes to play.

The creation of awareness on goods and services is a powerful administrating and communication tool used by the organization to fulfill a specific promotion task.  It is an imposition form of communication or presentation of goods and services and idea conducted through paid from media under an identified sponsorship.  The media of creating awareness is significant to marketing tools which helps to sell goods and services, image and idea through information for persuasion.

Television and radio are the fastest cursing for media.  It also combine vision and audio with movement.  It has proves to arrest attention, television audience to broad (whole family).  Radio on the other hand, allows the customer to do other things while listening, that is why nestle food makers of milo food drinks has decided to use these media for creating awareness.

 

1.1     GENERAL BACKGROUND OF THE NESTLE (MILO) FOOD PLC

The background of economic changes brought about the high demand for consumer product like food drinks in the manufacturing sector of the economy that made a call to duly in many manufacturing industries of which nestle food Nigeria Plc began simple trading operation in Nigeria in 1961 and had today grown into a leading food manufacturing and marketing company.  It is publicly quoted that company’s listed since 1978 on the Nigeria stock exchange with about 11,500 (eleven thousand five hundred) Nigeria share holders participating in 60% (sixty percent) of the company’s equity is owned by the nestle S.A. of Switzerland.

Moreover there are other food drink manufacturing companies like Christies plc, maser plc/Cadbury etc., located all over the country.  In spite of these companies nestle food companies had continue to service the strong competition with its branches evenly devastated throughout the country.

 

1.2     PROBLEMS ASSOCIATED WITH THE SUBJECT MATTER

Remember we discussed earlier the reason why organization embark on creating awareness.  Carrying home to our project/research topic we identified the makers of beverages (and of course milo food drink) embarking on radio and television means of creating awareness.

To sustain the product (milo) which has already gained acceptance in the Nigeria market.

To secure sales lead is also another problem and when they are all modification to the customer.

Other reasons are as follows:-

To introduce a new price policy education consumers demand other product in the category, introduce special offer, create/build retail stores etc, can be an objective of creating awareness depending on situation circumstances.  However, reasons load to objective and therefore the objective for creating awareness via radio and television could be one or all the above.

 

1.3     PROBLEMS THAT THE STUDY WILL BE CONCERNED WITH

How the creating awareness of milo food drink via radio and television helped in making consumers buying decision.  How to makes consumers believe the product is the best through creating awareness via radio and television.  Which period of duty is best suitable for creating awareness of milo food drink.  Major criticisms against these radio and television in creating awareness of milo food drink.

 

1.4     THE IMPORTANCE OF MILO DRINKS

The importance of the milo food drinks includes the followings:-

1.       The research intends to check the truthfulness of radio and television, as it influences the marketing of food beverages (milo) on purchasing b=habit of consumer.

2.       It helps to find out the methods of budget allocation to radio and television an awareness creating by the company (nestle food drinks) makers of milo food drink.

3.       Radio and television are the major media used by the milo food drink manufacture (nestle food drink)

 

1.5     DEFINITION OF IMPORTANT TERMS

1.       ORGANIZATION:-     This is a structure that enables people to work together in order to achieve a common started aim

2.       MANAGEMENT:        These are programme basing much on managerial planning operation and appraisal in having each manager set object in referable terms and assessing his or her performance against the achievement of the objectives.

According to N. C. Abah, motivation is the mind to do a thing because that thing has meaning to the person doing it. (N. C. Abah 1997: 115).  Also Emma E. O. Chukwuemeka said that for an individual to be motivated, he must believe that an act on his part must be followed by a given outcome. (Chukwuemeka 1998: 171). Motivation has been defined in terms of how behaviour get started and how it is sustained, is directed, stopped and how it is sustained, is directed stopped and what kind of subjective reaction is present in the organism while all this is going on. (Jonesty Rored) Nebraska symposium on motivation as quoted by N. C. Chantsl pg 97 in his book public personnel and Administration).  The relationship between motivation and productivity is the backbone of this research work. The project is an arduous attempt to study the productivity, using Enugu State University of Science and Technology, (ESUT) as a test group. Specifically, the research intends to isolate and analyse the motivational techniques employed by analyse the motivational techniques employed by the mentioned university to solicit workers co-operation.
Methodologically, this study is descriptive and pattern of descriptive analysis is based on answers to certain research questions formulated by the researcher.       Statistically tool of the chi-square (x2) is used in analyzing the views of the respondents, the high lights drawn thereof;

CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION

1.1     BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
In any given state different utility functions are performed. Some of these function services can be produced by private individuals but the cost will be high as to be beyond the financial reach of every individual who requires such essential goods, functions and services. In order to avoid such situations government decides to provide these essential functions and services itself. In doing so, the government does not want such services reasons to be under taken by a government departments or agency but instead sets up special institution, gives them legal and economic advice of edicts, decrees or acts of parliament to provide essential services. Among others, such organisation so set up became known broadly as state university or polytechnic.

Enugu state university of science and technology is Enugu state owned institution of higher learning established by the former Governor of Anambra State Chief (Hon) Dr. Jim ifeanyichuwku Nwobodo in 1980 following the creation of Enugu state in 1991, it became Enugu State University of Science and Technology. The institution is changed with the training of middle and high level manpower, carrying out research geared towards solving human problems among others. To achieve these goals and objectives, the university was staffed with different member of academic and non-academic staff.
Thus, all activities of any organizations are initiated and determined by the persons who make up that institution.
Dale Yoder (1972: 225) argues in affirmative, he contends that working organisations presumably begin with knowing the requirement of people, what ever may be their organisational goals and objectives, they can be implemented only through the end for the capabilities of people. Organisational structure must be manned or staffed, if they are to accomplish anything.
Human effort therefore is central to the attainment of any organisational goal.
The ability to motivate workers in any organisation will go a long way to enhance the organisational out put and productivity. Achievement of the workforce.

1.2     STATEMENT OF PROBLEM

  1. ESUT staff are not paid as at when due, these had resulted in poor performance of staff.
  2. The staff of ESUT are not usually exposed to in service and other training programmes which had resulted to inefficiency.
  3. ESUT staff are not promoted based on merit but on whether the affected officer knew those in authority and it had caused low productivity, poor performance workers.
  4. Incessant strike actions by staff of Enugu State University of Science and Tec, had also affected productivity of staff.
    1. PURPOSE/OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY

The search for solution to the problems of motivation and productivity in Enugu State University of Science and Technology has almost proved futile. Those problems are multifarious and have provoked series of researches on how to reduce these anomalies to the warmest minimum and make Enugu University of Science and Technology (ESUT) achieve better result (training of Manpower).          
It is the objective of this research to show that if the motivational strategies are effective, Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) can improve her level of performance.
Therefore, the specific objective or purpose of this research could be narrowed down as follows:
a.       To examine the effectiveness of the existing motivational strategies like in service and other training programes in ESUT.
b.       To examine the factors effecting the non-payment of salaries in ESUT.
c.       To identify possible steps to be taken in order to solve the problems of low productivity. This will include determining the extent workers negative emotion affects productivity in the institution.
d.       To identify and pin down other variables that impede productivity in ESUT like incessant strike actions by the staff and others if different from the above.

this research work is an attempt to study the importance of human resources management, in a business resources management in a business organization or enterprises which is of paramount importance to its survival.
Every organization, to a large extent depends more on these resources for the attainment of it’s objectives;
However, the objectives cannot be attain unless the organization is made of the employees who have skills, knowledge and ability to work.
Although employees may have the abilities skills and knowledge, in the long run they may find it very difficult to cope with their jobs due to many factors such as organizational changes, job changes, and technological changes and so on.
Therefore, management involves manpower training and development as one of is various activities.  When workers are employed, they are not just left to stay and work until they are done for retirement, but they are being trained in order to increase their abilities, skills and knowledge.
Experience has shown that many employees have failed in organization become their need for training was not identified or provided for as an indispensable part of management function.
However, employees are not just trained for their own benefits only, the organization stands to gain a lot from them as well.  The manpower development programme is a very important activity, management cannot afford to miss because of it’s various objectives.  A lot of reasons explain why organizations carry out manpower training.
These include:
a.       to avoid high costs of wastes and equipment maintenance.
b.       to improve the quality of output.
c.       To improve the quality of input.
d.       to lower the cost of wastes and equipment maintenance
e.       To prevent turnover absenteeism and increase employee job satisfaction
f.       To prevent employee obsolesce.
Considering the benefits of manpower training mention above, one is prone to say that manpower training is indispensably necessary for attainment of organizational goals.  A substantial amount of money is needed for this programme but is regard as money.
Well invested because of its various benefits.
In fact, the importance of manpower training cannot be over emphasized. It plays a large part in determining the effectiveness and efficiency of the organization.

 

 

1.2     STATEMENT OF PROBLEM
In every organization all over the world the management sets up the organizations goals and ways of achieving the goals.  The financial institution or any other organizations like Emenite LTD.
Enugu is no exception since they perform many activities in order to attain their goals effectively.  Effective and efficient workers are considered very necessary and essential.  Thus to keep and maintain those workers, they should be trained and developed as the need arises.
In the light of the objectives of the organization; this research work is centered on the essence of manpower training to business enterprises.
It is quite unpleasant that at present many organizations are yet to identify the importance of manpower training.
Now the question such as why some organizations do better than others?  In other ways, why is that some organization have not been able to perform effectively and efficiently? On the same note why is it that in spite of the high cost of training programme some organizations still embark on it; or why is it; or why is it that manpower training is rarely considered necessary in some companies.
However, in attempting these question, it is important to determine the following issues:
i.        Identification of potential training needs of existing jobs
ii.       Identification of individual training needs
iii.      Identification of individual performance level
iv       Determination of expenditure of resources on training and benefits expected in future.
v.       identification of past training performance with respect to the training objectives.  Thus it is hoped that a study in this area chosen would throw more light on the issues involved in manpower training in other business enterprises in Nigeria.

1.0 INTRODUCTION

A hostel by definition is a building in which cheap food and lodging and provided for students but unfortunately in festivity institution in Nigeria. The research on this issue this research, though on higher institutions, has a special reference on the institutions, has a special references on the institute of management and technology (IMT) Enugu. It has been established that the inadequacy of hostel accommodation as an adverse effect on the actualization of qualitative and standard education in Nigeria Universities and Polytechnic, that is why we have taken it upon ourselves to find out the lapses and problems that has heralded to this problems of inadequate accommodation.

Moreso, there are other problems which prompted us to research on the topic this includes – Students involvement in armed robbery Students involvement in armed prostitution High rate of disobedience by student as a result of not living in an academic environment. In IMT for instance, students go about looking for accommodation while there are vacancy rooms in the hostel which are wasting.

STATEMENT OF PROBLEMS

This study will be concerned with the problems posed by poor hostel accommodation, as if affects the analytic of education in higher institution with particular reference to the institute of management and technology (IMT) Enugu and these are as follows: -The students lack concentration on studies as a result of deprivation of privacy. Students pay less attention to studies and spend much of their time trying to make money, as the money they have, has bee spent on transportation. Cultism is about to take over the academic activities that are supposed to be going on in the school, as most of students vow stay off campus now mix with undersirable elements and this get involved in corrupt practice. The dual campus system, makes the students to be worn out before reaching their lecture base.

Administrative lapse has hindered the implementation of policies that could enhance the quality of life of the students in the hostels. The fact that apart from the hostel fee, student who stay in the hostels spend a lot of money on feeding and acquisition of other recreational facilities. Student say they bribe officials before rooms be allocate to them. Why school authorities fail to provide accommodation for students, lest alone saying that it is inadequate.

The last but not the least here is for us to find out, what the management is doing about the insufficient rooms of accommodation in IMT for instance a some of the rooms that that were meant to accommodate student are now being used as offices.  Above all is that this problem of inadequate infrastructure, posed by over population of student end staff will lead to great fall in academic, if not checked.

This research study focuses on the solving of unemployment problem through the establishment of small scale business in Nigeria.A vivid study of Nkanu-East Local Government Area. The study is trying to look into how the unemployment problem can be solved by  introducing small industry, which can be managed using the little capital.The research consulted some literatures related works, like Njideka P. (1998) setting small scale business management Enugu, Iyka Publishing Venture. Kotle – P. (1998) marketing management Analysis Planing implementation and control London. An this work was design to Nkanu East Local Government of Enugu State by establishing small scale industries and disbursing of capital as borrowing to them by the government. Method used in the collection of data are primary and secondary method. In primary data collection method, personal interview, questionnaire, personal observation, were a dated within the study area of Nkanu East Local Government of Enugu State.
Also secondary data collection was used on additional source of  data.The use of literature located text book, Journalists, newspapers and  other forms were adopted.One may conclude therefore that the crealing or the establishment of small scale industries in Nkanu East will be given a relief to  the  people, by creating employment, so as to  easy hardship. More so, it has or  manufacturing of primary  product before  it can be  used as final product by the by form.The following solutions are recommended, that government should  provide financial objectives   to ease  the establishment of small scale industries.However, government should problems experts to teach  on profit articulation and presentation if their credit, to the prospective leaders.
The research findings has shown that the establishment of small scale industries in Nkanu East Local Government of Enugu State will help increase the standard of the people living.

INTRODUCTION
1.1              BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY.
In adequate appreciation of how unemployment could be solved through the establishment of small scale business I Nigeria and in particular or Nkanu East Local government Area of Enugu State, there also the need for the initial performance of defining unemployment? Also according to Klott Lawrence in 1973, that small-scale industry is any industry which is independently owed and operated and not dominant in it’s area of operation, industries whether a business is small fair sized or by. The says that a small business requires at least one man who is not engaged in any other financial work required. Although it’s true that small scale business create job opportunity and facilitate the economy of the nation still confirmed to the large scale business.
Moreover, small-scale business is known also to have certain indispensable, which differentiate them from large-scale business. Finally the main point for measuring what constitutes a small-scale business attract the following, as to continue;

1.       THE SIZE OF THE BUSINESS: – Since they are small in nature, most of them are normally small in size and occupies a small share market.

  1. TYPE OF MANAGEMENT: – it’s characterizes by one man management, it is owner domination, that is Purism of ownership and control. They owner management participates activity in all level of decision. Making a day-to-day operation and management of the business.
  2. INFORMATION FLOW: – In small scale business as a one man business, the information is known to come from the owner to they workers and feed back is encourage effectively.
  3. SOLE PROPRIETORSHIP: – They are always polited by they sole proprietorship who does not want to go into particuliarship with others i.e they are ruled solely.
  4. CHEAP LABOUR:– Most of them in these case due to the type of their business, they search for cheap labour to do work for them, so that they can pay at the end  of the day.
  5. SMALL OUTLAY: – Due to the nature and size. They normally have small invest able capital to run their business. Some illustrations of small business are small-scale poultry farming, Fashion and  hair dressing, phone called business etc.

According to yakass, (1990) over the years there has been controversy over the definition of small scale industry.   The absence of universal acceptable definition has compounded the problems of many industrialists.
The control bank of Nigeria definition of small scale over does not exceed N 500, 000. 00 to 600, 000. 00. For commercial bank or capital investment not N2 millions and turn over to million for merchant banks.
The NERFUND (National Economic Reconstruction Fund) defines a small-scale operation, as the medium scale enterprise is any business requirement between N 6 millions and N10million also depart lend to start.
The federal ministry of industries defines small-scale industry as a manufacturing, processing or serving enterprises whose capital investment does not exceed N 250, 000 in machinery and equipment only.
The definition is to bring down the parameliar under which an industrialist may take advantages different machineries created by the government such machinery include the granting of loans equipment and raw materials.

1.2              STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEMS
In these recent days Nigeria, the country has been afflicted with so many unemployment problems. This accounts largely for the social ills that have been devialled, the country to day such as, oblaing by false, pretence or advance fees found move popularly known as “419” robbery, bribery and corruption which has become the bane of Nigeria potion and otherwise.

However, it is well common that gradulates produced from various institutions of higher learning and other highly skilled professionals hardly secure jobs takes less of suitable employment opportunity in our country Nigeria in particular. Youth coppers for example on passing out move from  one street to other in searching of job or an employment but no way.
